Tennessee football: Ranking all 12 games by difficulty on Vols’ 2022 schedule
1. Alabama Crimson Tide
Saturday, Oct. 15; Neyland Stadium; Knoxville, Tenn.
No, don’t try to be cute by mentioning the fact that Tennessee football gets to host the Alabama Crimson Tide this year. This is still the hardest game for the Vols, and it will continue to be just that until they prove they can win against them just one time with Nick Saban at the helm.
Alabama is on a 15-game winning streak against UT, the longest in the history of what you could once call a rivalry for either team. They were younger than they usually are last year, and they are on a mission after losing the national championship game to Georgia. The Vols appear to be in line as another victim in their path.
Against a regular Saban Bama team, could they have a better chance this year than most? Sure. However, this isn’t one of those Saban type of teams. Again, they are loaded with their Heisman Trophy quarterback returning in Bryce Young, and their secondary should be a lot better than it was against UGA for the title last year.
Taking all this into account, Alabama may have one of its better teams in the Saban era, and that’s saying something. Tennessee football is in trouble as a result, and once again, the Tide will be their hardest opponent to face by a mile.
