Ranking Tennessee football’s position units for 2022
8. Tight end
Here’s an offensive position where experience helps. Tennessee football had two starters by committee last year in Princeton Fant and Jacob Warren. Fant was the main receiving tight end between the 20-yard lines, and Warren was the big target for the Vols when they got inside the red zone and needed a touchdown pass.
That makes for a solid tandem, but there are some issues. Both had PFF regular season grades under 60, and neither had eye-opening stats. To be fair, Warren did have three touchdown catches, but he only had 18 catches for 179 yards. As the tight end for big gains, Fant had just 16 catches for 220 yards. He had a score too.
Taking all of this into account, there’s nothing standout about the unit yet when it comes to production. Now, more depth is there this year with Miles Campbell having another year of experience and UCF Knights transfer Charlie Browder joining the program.
Still, this comes down to Fant and Warren. Alex Golesh will probably want to figure out ways to incorporate them more in the offense this year with two wide receivers gone, and he’s got a solid system going with them, but they didn’t do enough to be higher up.
