Tennessee football’s 2022 schedule: Ranking games by importance
8. At Georgia Bulldogs
Saturday, Nov. 5; Sanford Stadium; Athens, Ga.
Just like Alabama, the Georgia Bulldogs aren’t as much of a sure loss this year, even though they are still a circled loss. In fact, if Tennessee football wasn’t facing them on the road, this game could potentially move up the list of importance given the level of expectations surrounding the Vols heading into this year.
Look, UGA is a top five team, but they lost a ton of talent. As a result, they are a significant step below Alabama this year, making them much more vulnerable to upset losses. There’s a reason many analysts have the Vols over Georgia as their upset pick this year. That’s becoming a popular trend for many people.
Georgia being more beatable than Alabama makes them a more important game for UT. Meanwhile, they are an SEC East opponent. If by some chance the Vols enter November 7-1, which is a realistic possibility, and their only loss is to Alabama, this game will have major SEC East and College Football Playoff implications.
Again, like Alabama, this game isn’t important to determining what happens to Tennessee football in 2022 when it comes to the goals the fans have, and that’s what keeps it down here. However, there is more excitement behind it than usual.
