Fall camp practices have resumed after the Tennessee Vols’ second scrimmage this past weekend, and that means more interviews with players and coaches. These interviews have revealed key details about what the season may look like, and Tuesday was no different.
Our morning update on Rocky Top leads with some of the information that came out of those interviews. One of UT’s offensive position coaches spoke Tuesday, as did two offensive players, and we’ll detail what they all said.
Beyond football, though, there is preseason news in other sports as well, including a soccer update that was revealed. We’ll close with a customer service event the school is holding related to this football season. Let’s start with the football interviews, though.
Jerry Mack updates running backs – Patrick Brown, GoVols247
After the Tennessee Vols football team first post-second scrimmage fall camp practice Tuesday, running backs coach Jerry Mack spoke with the media. Mack revealed new transfer running back Lyn-J Dixon is battling an ankle injury and that Jaylen Wright is improving from his injury. Here’s a bit of what he said about Jabari Small.
"“The added weight should help him a ton to try to increase his carries. It’s one of the things that we’ve been really focusing on with him in the offseason and obviously in fall camp, is just trying to make sure that you understand how to finish the practice.”"
Jabari Small, Princeton Fant meet with media – Brent Hubbs, VolQuest
In addition to Mack, the Tennessee Vols had two players also speak Tuesday, including Small. Princeton Fant also spoke. Small talked a lot about improving his pass protection, which adding about 15 pounds should help. Here’s a bit of what he said on that.
"“That’s what comes with the position. You want to be the best player all-around. Whatever they ask me to do, I try to do that to the best of my ability, and I’m just thankful to be in this position. Whatever they need me to do, that’s what I’m going to do.”"
Fant discussed the tight end room and how things are different, and he also talked about his role as a leader since he’s in his sixth year and has played three different positions during his time at UT. This is how he described that.
"“I found my home for sure. It’s been a crazy ride these past six years, just bouncing around from every single position, but tight end is my home, and I’m ready to get to work.”"
