Tennessee football: Top 15 dark-horse Vols for 2022
6’3″ 300 pounds
We now move to Tamarion McDonald’s high school teammate at Whitehaven in Memphis, Bryson Eason. They committed together, and ironically, both were four-star linebackers when they first signed with Tennessee football back in 2020. Obviously, they have gone completely separate ways in terms of what they developed into.
Anyway, Eason is one of the defensive linemen in competition to replace Matthew Butler up front. LaTrell Bumphus is the favorite to do that, as all signs point to him starting alongside Omari Thomas. The Vols still have Elijah Simmons and Da’Jon Terry for specific nose tackle roles, and they still have to figure out what to do at the other end spot.
In addition to all of that, they’ve got to figure out who backs up Bumphus. Eason has been making a name for himself in fall camp, so don’t count him out. Last year, he had three tackles, but two went for a loss. He clearly has a lot of potential brewing, and it could boil over.
Obviously, given the weight he put on and the conversion, there was a learning curve to playing defensive tackle. However, that learning curve may be over, and Eason could see a lot of action for Tennessee football this year. Bumphus will need breathers, and if there’s an injury, Eason will definitely see some action.
