Just like Ramel Keyton, Jackson Lampley was a highly touted recruit in Tennessee football’s 2019 class who hasn’t lived up to the hype just yet. There are expectations for Keyton to finally reach it this year given what we know to be happening at the receiver position. Those expectations aren’t there for Lampley just yet.

Still, Lampley has stayed in the system, and after redshirting in 2019 while playing just two games and not playing at all in 2020, last year was his first real chance to prove himself. A new system changed things, but he ended up seeing action in all 12 games, playing 86 snaps.

One of the reasons Lampley is forgotten about is his experience at guard, and the Vols return everybody there. However, Jerome Carvin may have to move back over again, and we don’t know what will happen with Javontez Spraggins and Ollie Lane. There’s an avenue for Lampley to see a lot more action this year if an injury occurs.

What’s key for Lampley is that he can play either spot on the interior line. That’s a huge deal for Tennessee football, and this could be his teaser season before breaking out next year. Lampley has three years of eligibility left, but he’s the top dark-horse guy this year because of his real potential and the fact that nobody is talking about it.
