Tennessee football: Top 15 dark-horse Vols for 2022

Last year, against the Pittsburgh Panthers, Jimmy Calloway showed just how deadly he can be with the ball in his hands. He took a screen pass 44 yards for a touchdown, and it was all him, as he eluded multiple defenders and just outran everybody else. Velus Jones Jr. was the main guy in the slot, but that provided promise for the future.
Calloway finished the year, though, with just five catches for 84 yards and that touchdown. Meanwhile, this offseason, Jalin Hyatt appears to have exploded onto the scene with Jones gone as Tennessee football’s main slot receiver. Given the hype behind him, he should have.
However, that has limited the chances for Calloway to work his way into the starting rotation. Still, Calloway has proven himself elite, and he’s probably the backup slot guy, so he’s an injury away from being the starter. Also, as Hyatt did last year, he can still do some damage in this role.
This is a potential that could involve Squirrel White and Jimmy Holiday in competition as well, but White is a true freshman, and Holiday is an expected breakout star based on what he could do in the return game. As a result, neither made this list. Calloway, on the other hand, could shockingly become his star if a few things happen.
