Tennessee football: Prediction for every game on Vols’ 2022 schedule plus bowl projections
7-4 (3-4)
Despite beating the South Carolina Gamecocks 45-20 last year, things are different for Tennessee football and Shane Beamer’s team this year. Beamer has his quarterback in Oklahoma Sooners transfer Spencer Rattler. That should make South Carolina significantly better after already going 7-6 in 2021, the same record as the Vols.
We know about the defensive woes, particularly in the secondary, that UT has a tendency to face. That will be on display in this one. When you add in the fact that this year, the game is at South Carolina, there are already two factors working against the Vols that weren’t there last year.
However, there’s a third factor as well. The bye effect will be in full swing. UT beats LSU because of its early bye. At this point, though, they will be in the midst of playing their seventh straight game without any rest, a slate that saw them play LSU, Alabama, Georgia and Kentucky. They will be mentally and physically exhausted.
Having to face a solid SEC team like South Carolina and an elite quarterback with that emotional toll hanging over them will just be too much, particularly for the defense. The offense will do its job, but this will be like the Music City Bowl last year all over again.
