Tennessee football: Prediction for every game on Vols’ 2022 schedule plus bowl projections
8-4 (4-4)
A brutal second half of the season will come to an end with an easy win. Yes, like South Carolina, the Vanderbilt Commodores have a second-year head coach and should be much better. Also, like South Carolina, Vanderbilt gets to host Tennessee football this year while the Vols are in the midst of a long stretch without a bye.
Unlike South Carolina, though, Vanderbilt is still awful. Also, it’s not really a home game for Vanderbilt. When the two play in Nashville, there are always more Vol fans there, and that’ll be the same this time around. In what could potentially be the final game for Hendon Hooker and Cedric Tillman depending on what they do for the bowl, the Vols put on a show.
Hooker and Tillman will connect multiple times to break multiple records in this game, with Hooker setting the single-season passing touchdown, total touchdowns and total offense records. Tillman will set the all-time UT single-season record for receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.
In the process, Tennessee football will surpass its win total from last year. It won’t be as thrilling as they will have thought it was a few weeks before, but it will still be a solid finish to Josh Heupel’s second season and leave open the possibility of a top 25 end to the season depending on how their bowl game goes.
