Tennessee football: Prediction for every game on Vols’ 2022 schedule plus bowl projections
4-0 (1-0)
You’re never supposed to bet on Tennessee football to beat the Florida Gators. However, if the Vols don’t do it this year, they’ll never do it. UT finished better than Florida last year despite losing to them. They are supposed to be much better this year, entering Josh Heupel’s second season. Florida is undergoing a coaching change.
Even if Billy Napier is the best coach ever, you have to expect some growing pains. Only Tim Tebow thinks Anthony Richardson is a better quarterback than Hendon Hooker, and if mistakes were a problem under Dan Mullen, of course they’ll be a problem under a first-year head coach.
On top of all of this, Florida should be more mentally drained already by the time this matchup takes place. They open the season against the Utah Utes, a game that should be a loss. If, as we are predicting, the Vols do end up beating Pitt, they’ll be riding high coming into this one.
Of course, this will be two weeks removed from Pitt with Akron in between, so Tennessee football will have had time to settle down. Add in the fact that this game is at home, and the Vols will have one of their typical offensive performances. Florida’s defense undergoing a schematic change will be too much, and the Vols will actually win comfortably.
