Tennessee football: Prediction for every game on Vols’ 2022 schedule plus bowl projections
5-0 (2-0)
Although they may have a dynasty brewing with Brian Kelly as head coach, the LSU Tigers are also going to have some growing pains given their transition. Like Florida, LSU was a game worse than Tennessee football last year. Combine that with the coaching change and the hype behind the Vols, and this game is already interesting.
We’d still pick LSU, though, since the Vols are traveling down there. What changes things, however, is the fact that UT is coming off a bye week. As the Kentucky Wildcats last year about Josh Heupel off a bye. It doesn’t matter how good your defense is. Heupel will expose it.
LSU’s defense isn’t that great, and playing in Death Valley won’t change that. It’s worth mentioning that LSU’s matchup with the Vols is sandwiched right between trips to Auburn and Florida, so this is also a huge trap game. Every part of this works in the Vols’ favor.
As a result, expect Tennessee football’s offense to go off. Meanwhile, expect LSU, like Pitt, to make just enough mistakes. That’ll allow the Vols to win this one, and in shocking fashion, they’ll be 5-0 in Heupel’s second season. Talk of winning the SEC East will start to begin at this point, just as they have a huge matchup the next week.
