Tennessee football: Prediction for every game on Vols’ 2022 schedule plus bowl projections
Tennessee Volunteers: 52 Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks: 20
Game 7 | Saturday, Oct. 22 | Neyland Stadium | Knoxville, Tenn.
6-1 (2-1)
That Alabama game will be a reality check for Tennessee football that the program is still not yet back under Josh Heupel. A week later, they have to find a way to get up for the UT-Martin Skyhawks after getting embarrassed like that. Honestly, while they’ll cruise to victory, they will still have issues as a result.
UT-Martin is set to have its best team ever. Entering Jason Simpson’s 17th, season, they just won the Ohio Valley Conference, and all signs point to them being the favorite to win the league again. As a result, they are the best FCS team UT will have faced in a while, and they are better than Akron, making them not the Vols’ easiest game this year.
Expect the flow to be different from your typical UT games. In this one, the Vols will actually start slow. UT-Martin will keep it close through the first quarter, and they’ll only be down by two scores at the half. Heupel’s team will then turn it on, though, knowing they need to refocus.
A dominant third quarter will put Tennessee football back in control, and the Vols will then pull all their starters while coasting to victory in the fourth quarter. They’ll allow a late score or two to win 52-20, so it won’t be as pretty on paper as their other wins, but it’ll still be a blowout win.
