Darnell Wright. 839. Pick Analysis. 6'6 335 lbs. Offensive lineman. 4. player. Scouting Report

Another three-year starter, Darnell Wright is back at right tackle for Tennessee football, where he is at his best, after a year at left tackle.

One of the most versatile lineman for the Vols, Darnell Wright is important more than he is elite this year, although he could end up being both. In 2019, Wright was the first four-year five-star commitment to UT since 2015, and he has started every year on the offensive line since joining the program then.

In 2019 and 2020, Wright played right tackle. However, last year, he moved to left tackle with Wanya Morris and Jahmir Johnson entering the transfer portal. Well, with Cade Mays gone, he’s moved back to right tackle this year while Jeremiah Crawford, Gerald Mincey and Dayne Davis compete to take his old spot.

Despite the crazy ride he’s been on, you can’t deny Wright’s value for Tennessee football. He’s one of the best overall linemen, and there is a reason he has a ton of preseason All-SEC hype entering this year. Expectations are for him to finally emerge as a breakout star in what is technically his senior season. He hasn’t redshirted yet either.

Unless USC Trojans transfer Bru McCoy gets cleared to play by the NCAA, Wright will remain the only player on the Vols this year who was a five-star recruit coming out of high school. If the line is able to stay healthy, he should be able to show the world how great of a blocker he truly is.
