Tennessee football’s top five graduate seniors for 2022
Over two full years of starting at free safety should do wonders for Trevon Flowers as he finishes up his eligibility with Tennessee football.
Losing Alontae Taylor and Theo Jackson to the NFL has generated lots of concerns about Tennessee football in the secondary this year. Trevon Flowers’ decision to return for his second senior season, though, went a long way toward alleviating that role, especially since he’s back at safety along with Jaylen McCollough.
Safety is one spot where Tim Banks doesn’t have to worry, even if the rest of the secondary is an issue. Anyway, Flowers had two interceptions last year to go with three pass deflections, a sack, one and a half tackles for a loss, and 82 total tackles, 48 of which were solo.
That was solid production, but his overall play seemed to dip from 2020. As a result, this year is a bit of a test for him. Returning is obviously a way to help his draft stock, but he’s got to be able to deliver in a big way. He’s probably the biggest leader on the defense now.
To be fair, Flowers is entering his first season playing the same position in the same system and not coming off injury. His potential is clear, and he has shown his reliability, which is why he is so high on this list. We can’t ignore how much the defense depends on him, and his experience, playing in his second senior season, should help a ton.
