Joining Tennessee football to officially kick off week 1 on a Thursday night, the Missouri Tigers are looking to rebound from a letdown of a second year under head coach Eli Drinkwitz. It’s the exact type of letdown Tennessee football is trying to avoid under Josh Heupel in his second year.

Mizzou’s offense stole the show last year, but they’re replacing their whole backfield. Meanwhile, their defense, which was awful, returns and adds a lot of talent. As a result, there’s reason to believe they’ll have a totally different approach to this season. We’ll know soon enough when they kickoff in this matchup.

After a 3-9 season, Louisiana Tech finally moved on from Skip Holtz. They bring in Sonny Cumbie, who served as interim head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders down the stretch of last year. Cumbie is an offensive mind looking to bring more flare to Louisiana Tech, and Mizzou is his first chance to put that on display.

Prediction

Despite the change of pace for Mizzou and the lack of experience at Louisiana Tech, these are both offensive coaches. As a result, the over is the best play here. Meanwhile, Mizzou should be so much better in general, that they’ll be able to cover this spread easily. Take them to win, and take the points.

Missouri: 45 Louisiana Tech: 20 (Missouri -20.5; Over 61.5)
