How much more exciting can it get? The 2022 college football season starts tomorrow, and the Tennessee Vols’ season-opener is less than a week away. There will be no more weekends without football until February, which is exactly what the world needs at this moment.

Funny enough, though, there was no football news that hit the presses Thursday. Instead, our morning update on Rocky Top leads mostly with other fall sports that are already underway, specifically two Lady Vols sports. One is a recap involving a loss in a sport still searching for its first win on the season.

The other is a preview of what’s to come. Speaking of previews, scheduling in one Tennessee Vols sport also made news, and we’ll touch on that as well. However, there’s no football, basketball, women’s basketball or baseball news for the day. Let’s start with the outing that took place at UT on Thursday night.

Soccer falls to Duke – Ken Lay, VolsWire.com

Despite leading 2-0 for the first 70 minutes of the game, the No. 22 Tennessee Lady Vols soccer team fell at home Thursday to the Duke Blue Devils 3-2. UT remains winless on the year, at 0-2-1, as they lost their season-opener a week ago to the North Carolina Tar Heels and then tied the SMU Mustangs this past Sunday. They’ll next host the Bowling Green Falcons Wednesday.

"The Blue Devils (3-0-0) pulled to within 2-1 on a goal by Sophie Jones in the 70th minute.Duke scored an equalizer when Michelle Cooper scored in the 73rd minute.Kat Rader scored a game-winning goal in the 81st minute for Duke."

UT will face the No. 13 Purdue Boilermakers, the Bowling Green Falcons and the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers over a period of two days. This will be the opening weekend of the regular season for them.

"The Big Orange will play three matches over the two-day tournament, beginning Friday at 7 p.m. ET against Loyola Chicago. Tennessee plays twice on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m. with Bowling Green before closing out the weekend at 6 p.m. against No. 13 Purdue."
