We always knew Tennessee Vols athletic director Danny White had skills on Twitter, and he once again put those on display this past weekend. White decided to weigh in on the Auburn Tigers drama in their athletic department.

Athletic director Allen Greene and the school parted ways on Friday, initially reported by Pete Thamel on ESPN. The move comes over four and a half years after he was hired away from the Buffalo Bulls, which occurred in January of 2018.

Obviously, this comes amidst the drama of the Bryan Harsin saga, and reportedly Greene had not been offered an extension on his contract, set to expire in January. White, for his part, came to Greene’s defense and took a huge shot at Auburn on Twitter.

There’s history here. Greene was White’s deputy athletic director at Buffalo and took over for him when he left for the UCF Knights. As a result, the leader of the Tennessee Vols had good reason to take his shot at Auburn.

We know the dysfunction of the athletic department there this past offseason, and it seemed as if Greene was unfairly blamed for that. As a result, White’s father, former Duke Blue Devils AD Kevin White, also slammed Auburn over the situation, according to Thamel’s report.

For Danny White’s part, this is another great sign when it comes to UT. The Vols need somebody to be open and defensive of what’s right, somebody to be loyal to his own and not be afraid to publicly go at other programs for that.

As a result, while this may seem trivial to a degree, it shows how White sticks up for his own. He did the same back in 2017 when UCF went undefeated. The next year, he made the bold move of hanging a national championship banner to slight the NCAA.

When it comes to traditions and promoting the Tennessee Vols, White has more than proven his abilities on that front. However, his willingness to go so bold publicly is another good sign for them. You can bet they’ll benefit.
