Tennessee football’s top 10 impact players for 2022
6’3″ 215 pounds
Okay, so Hendon Hooker takes every snap, meaning he’ll naturally be more valuable to Tennessee football than a receiver if he’s elite, which he is. However, Cedric Tillman is a unique talent at the position, one who completely changes the game for the Vols when in there.
Remember, Tillman caught a touchdown pass from Joe Milton III in the opener against the Bowling Green Falcons, and it was a horrible pass. The score was all due to Tillman’s amazing hands, and he put those on display throughout the year. Those hands combined with his size make him one of those receivers who can truly elevate quarterbacks.
With his rare talent, yes, he’s actually the best player on the team. Last year, he had 64 passes for 1,081 yards and 12 touchdowns. He’s the only returning 1,000-yard receiver, which is why it was a travesty that the media voters made him second team preseason All-SEC. Still, even with that lack of respect, Tillman is this team’s best weapon by far.
Hooker and Tennessee football have other options at receiver. Ramel Keyton and Bru McCoy provide solid size at wideout too. Jalin Hyatt and Jimmy Calloway should be elite in the slot. Walker Merrill is a versatile receiver. However, Tillman was the guy who made everything go last year, and he’ll do that again for the Vols this year.
