Easily the leader of Tennessee football’s defense, Trevon Flowers has been starting at free safety since 2019. This is his first year as a returning starter, though, when he is fully healthy and playing in the same system as a year ago. Remember, he suffered a season-ending broken leg injury in 2019 before returning in 2020.

Although Jaylen McCollough racked up more stats last year, including more interceptions, Flowers is the key guy at safety. As a result, he’s the one who made the list. With questions all around in the secondary, Flowers is one guy Tim Banks and Willie Martinez can count on.

Last year, Flowers did have two interceptions along with three pass deflections, one and a half tackles for a loss, a sack and 82 total tackles, 48 of which were solo. His baseball experience in high school made him a true safety, as he knows what goes into playing center field.

It’s not clear how much of an actual playmaker Flowers will be this year, but he’ll have the greatest impact in the secondary. The help and freedom that he’ll need to provide everybody else back there is huge, and it’s enough to say even if indirect, his effect will be huge. Back for his second senior season, his experience should help too.
