Given the talent Ball State returns at cornerback with Amechi Uzodinma II and at safety with Malcolm Lee, the secondary has enough experience to not get torched by Cedric Tillman or even Jalin Hyatt. Honestly, the best mismatch for Tennessee football would be at the No. 2 wideout spot since Nic Jones is back from injury with Ball State.

However, we still don’t know who has that spot locked up yet between Ramel Keyton or Walker Merrill. As a result, to find the biggest potential weapon in the passing game this week, we’re going a different route. Yes, Princeton Fant is the guy most destined to shine.

Jacob Warren could be on here too, as he’s the red zone tight end, but Fant will be the one most responsible for making plays before then. The departures at receiver suggested he’d see a larger role this year after over 200 receiving yards in 2021, and the first week of the season may be his best chance to do just that.

There has been talk about the potential of Fant and Warren to emerge, and given Ball State’s talent in the back seven, tight end is UT’s biggest advantage Thursday. As a result, Fant shockingly makes the list as Rocky Top’s best asset in the passing game.
