With Kedon Slovis now at quarterback, the offensive formations have changed a bit. Kenny Pickett throwing to Jordan Addison isn’t happening anymore. However, Slovis showed against WVU he can handle a shootout, and he was efficient. As a result, Tennessee football will have to make sure the deep ball is still covered well.

That’s where Trevon Flowers comes into play. Warren Burrell and Jaylen McCollough saw more plays in the secondary last week, but Flowers is the guy responsible for covering the most field at free safety. He was able to stay home whenever Ball State had a trick play last week, but now he’s got to demonstrate his ability to cover so much ground.

As the most experienced player on the defense when it comes to number of snaps played for his college career, Flowers was already expected to be an anchor for the secondary. Against Pitt and that offense, which is still a threat, the pressure is on him more than ever.

An interception by Flowers would be huge in this game, but most crucial for him is making sure the other defensive backs are able to stay home and manage their assignments. He can do that by backing them up well and stepping up whenever he is called on.
