6th year in NFL

Just as Justin Coleman seemed to be taking a step back last year, Tennessee football had another defensive back emerge. After four years as a backup for the Pittsburgh Steelers who saw action as a rotational player, Cameron Sutton had a bit of a breakout campaign in 2021. Now, his expectations have gone up dramatically.

Sutton really began to show signs in 2020, as he started six games that year. He was rewarded with a two-year $9 million contract to further prove himself. With that taken care of, he started all 16 games and came away with two interceptions, six pass deflections and a forced fumble.

Now, entering another contract year, you can bet Sutton will be wanting to take his game to another level. He was one of the Vols’ most reliable cornerbacks despite getting hurt in 2016. Athleticism defined him, so his potential was always clear, and spending five years with such a great franchise only helped him.

As a result, it’s reasonable to believe that Sutton will take another huge leap forward this year. Could an All-Pro or Pro Bowl season be on the table? That’s not likely, but given the way he’s developed so far, he should become a major factor in Pittsburgh this year.
