With the Clemson Tigers’ blowout win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Monday, Week 1 of the 2022 college football season is in the books. Now, things are in full swing, and the routine will be normal for the Tennessee Vols and everybody else as the NFL season begins this week. Football season truly is underway.

Our morning report on Rocky Top leads with coverage of Week 2 for UT. After a long weekend thanks to them playing on Thursday, Big Orange Country is now in full preparation mode to get set to visit the Pittsburgh Panthers this week, a revenge game after last year’s loss.

We have interviews with players and coaches about getting ready for that game. Beyond football, though, we’ll recap the long weekend, as soccer and volleyball both had scheduled events for us to now recap. Labor Day weekend is over, fall is in full swing, and it’s time to dive in to the news surrounding the Tennessee Vols related to that.

Josh Heupel, players preview Pitt – UTSports

Following the Tennessee Vols football team’s 59-10 win over the Ball State Cardinals last Thursday, Josh Heupel, Jabari Small and Jerome Carvin all took the podium Monday to get ready for the Pittsburgh Panthers. Here’s a bit of what Heupel said about how Pitt is different this year than the team that beat UT in Knoxville 41-34 last year.

"“The structure of what they do offensively is a little bit different. They played with an extra tackle at times last week, some 12-personnel as well, running the football and then their play-action shots come off of that. In recent years, with the quarterback that they had, they were a little bit more spread and were pitching it around a little bit more.”"

Carvin, meanwhile, talked about dealing with Pitt’s defense. Here’s a bit of what he described based on what he’s seen and his experience playing them last year.

"“They’re really disciplined up front. They get after you, definitely in the pass (game). Run game, they are a stout group.”"

Small looked back on the Ball State game while also discussing getting ready for Pitt. This is what he said about last Thursday.

"“For me personally, I ran the ball pretty hard. I can always clean up on some reads. I maybe missed some cuts, and I need to get vertical. I was pleased with how the offensive line, Hendon (Hooker), the receivers and the whole team played.”"

Volleyball wins two of three at N.C. State Classic – Ken Lay, VolsWire

After losing two of three matches in their opening weekend as they hosted the Tennessee Classic, the Tennessee Lady Vols got back to .500 thanks to winning two of three this past weekend at the N.C. State Classic. They’re back home this weekend for the Rocky Top Classic.

"The Lady Vols (3-3), who won its tournament opener against Elon in four sets Friday. Tennessee lost to Colgate Saturday before sweeping host North Carolina State."

Soccer defeats Tennessee Tech – Eric Woods, UT Daily Beacon

It’s now a two-game winning streak for the Tennessee Lady Vols’ soccer team after an 0-2-1 start. UT defeated the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles Sunday, which followed a 4-0 win over the Bowling Green Falcons the previous Wednesday.

"After a series of rough starts to begin the season, sophomores Jordan Fusco and Taylor Huff had the Lady Vols rolling out of the gates with two goals within the first four minutes of the game.Fusco kicked things off with her first goal of the season, shortly followed by Huff just 38 seconds later in Tennessee’s 7-0 victory over Tennessee Tech (1-3-2)."
