Gambling odds according to WynnBET

  • Spread: Auburn -23.5
  • Over/Under: 48.5
  • Moneyline: Auburn -2500; San Jose State +1100

Well, they did at least win in a blowout, but the Auburn Tigers do appear to be reeling from the distractions surrounding the Bryan Harsin saga. They faced a mediocre FCS school in the Mercer Bears and didn’t cover, so that raises questions as to whether or not they can raise themselves out of just being above average this year.

We’ll find out a bit more about whether or not they can do that this week as they get set to host the San Jose State Spartans. This is their first matchup against an FBS school on the year, and once again, they are expected to deliver a blowout performance. Do they have it in them?

Sixth-year head coach Brent Brennan is coming off a 5-7 season, but his team just struggled to put away the Portland State Vikings last week, winning only 21-17. As a result, expectations for them to make this interesting in any way are low, but you never know with Auburn.

Prediction

The Tigers will blow out San Jose State, but just like Mercer, they won’t cover. They are going to be just a step below what’s expected of them all year, and that’ll show here. Looking ahead to the Penn State Nittany Lions won’t help either. Take the over because of San Jose State catching Auburn’s defense napping at times to keep them from covering.

Auburn: 37 San Jose State: 20 (San Jose State +23.5; Over 48.5)
