Southern Jaguars (1-0) at LSU Tigers (0-1)

Saturday, Sept. 10 | 7:30 p.m. ET | SEC Network | Tiger Stadium; Baton Rouge, La.

Gambling odds according to WynnBET

  • Spread: LSU -47.5
  • Over/Under: 58.5
  • Moneyline: LSU -50000; Southern +2500

How do the LSU Tigers get back up for this one? They had a short week, for starters, and they kicked off the Brian Kelly era losing to the Florida State Seminoles in heartbreaking fashion. Their play still suggests they’ll be a threat to Tennessee football later in the year, as they would seem to just have to fix their special teams issues.

Still, until they can fix those, there’s no telling how many games they could lose that they should have won. Kayshon Boutte transfer speculation only adds to the drama surrounding this team right now, and while Kelly still has a chance to create a dynasty here, it’s hard to know how things will work out the rest of this year.

On the other side, the Southern Jaguars may be a huge threat. Eric Dooley just led them to an 86-0 win in their opener, and his track record of offense and winning could be enough to help this team put on a show. Sure, they’re an FCS foe, but they’re not going to be the easiest out.

Prediction

LSU’s low morale, the Boutte distraction and the short week will all play a role in them looking sloppy Saturday. Their defense will take the biggest hit against this Southern offense, and that’ll keep them from covering. It’ll also help the game hit the over, although the Tigers will win.
