There was no shortage of fireworks as Tennessee football scored a 34-27 overtime win over the Pittsburgh Panthers on the road Saturday. The Vols were quiet for most of the third quarter and mostly quiet for the entire second half. Also, ironically, Pitt came away with many more big plays despite that being the Vols’ style of play.

However, that doesn’t mean that they didn’t generate a ton of highlights throughout the game. UT moved the ball on offense for most of its scores but still managed to have some big moments. The defense also came through, more than usual to help generate big plays and, in the second half, carry this team to victory.

Video from all the standout moments in the Vols’ road victory to move to 2-0 on the season was accessible on Twitter. As a result, we were able to put together a full list of plays anybody following Rocky Top would want to look back on. These are highlights from Tennessee football’s road win over a top 25 foe.

Trevon Flowers sack

As you can see, this game was heavy in second-quarter highlights. Also, two key plays in overtime also made the difference. However, it also involved some highlights in the second half on defense and special teams. Sure, UT generated highlights for Pitt with miscues in the second half, but they were able to come through too.

That Byron Young sack was crucial to holding Pitt to a field goal on one drive. Tre Flowers’ sack brought up 4th and goal from the 20, which is why the Vols were able to win. Chase McGrath’s 51-yarder was huge, as he made both attempts while Pitt missed two in regulation, including a 30-yarder. Place kicking became an advantage.
