Tennessee football flirting with top of SEC Power Rankings for Week 2 of 2022
Defeated Florida Gators 26-16
Just like Tennessee football, Kentucky has beaten a Power Five team on the road who beat a Power Five team. Florida beat Utah to open the season. Unlike the Vols, that Power Five team beat a Power Five team who isn’t winless. Utah beat the Southern Utah Thunderbirds 73-7 this past week, so there’s enough to give UK more credibility.
Oh, and we can mention that Kentucky didn’t struggle with Florida. They controlled the game from start to finish. Last weekend, their season-opening Group of Five foe, the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks, got their first win as well, albeit like Utah coming against an FCS school.
Still, to this point, Kentucky’s resume is more impressive than most. In fact, if you don’t account for margin of victory, they have a strong chance to be No. 1 in our SEC Power Rankings. Mark Stoops’ team is very talented, and they could be thinking about the East this year.
This red-hot start won’t subside either, as they host the Youngstown State Penguins and then Northern Illinois over the next two weeks. Then the tests begin as they visit Ole Miss, host South Carolina Mississippi State and visit Tennessee football. Still, then they visit Missouri and Host Vanderbilt, so with this schedule, another 10 wins at least is on the table.
