Lost to Wake Forest Demon Deacons 45-25

Reality is setting in for the Vanderbilt Commodores. They still have a fun offense to watch, but the fact of the matter is the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors are just that bad. That was a team that is undergoing the wildest transition of any FBS program due to the transfers and firing of Todd Graham and could be historically bad as a result.

Vandy struggled to put away the Elon Phoenix the next week, and they just got blown out by the Wake Forest Demon Deacons and former Tennessee football offensive coordinator Dave Clawson. As a result, they still belong near the bottom of our SEC Power Rankings.

What keeps Vandy ahead of Mizzou, outside of one more meaningless win, for now, is the fact that they did play a ranked team. Mizzou lost by a lot more to a solid but unranked team. Still, they are both in a tier together, just slightly ahead of the Texas A&M Aggies.

Clark Lea’s team is better than last year, but this is a crucial week to prove that. A visit to the Northern Illinois Huskies gives them a chance to surpass last year’s win total, which would be a huge accomplishment on its own. SEC play begins after that, and their first three games are the Alabama Crimson Tide, Ole Miss Rebels and Georgia Bulldogs, so they need this win.
