Tennessee football flirting with top of SEC Power Rankings for Week 2 of 2022
Defeated Central Arkansas Bears 59-3
They are in the same tier, but unlike Auburn, Ole Miss looked great against its FCS foe and, while looking ugly against its FBS foe, still won by one possession. Lane Kiffin’s team put on a show last week against the Central Arkansas Bears, and all signs point to their offense beginning to figure it out. Maybe he really did just need to stop trolling Tennessee football.
Anyway, the win over the Troy Trojans was still almost within a field goal of a cover, so it wasn’t awful. On the other hand, Ole Miss has no impressive wins and an ugly win over the one FBS team it beat. As a result, they still belong in a tier with Auburn right now in our SEC Power Rankings.
Kiffin has given everybody reason to believe in what he is building down in Oxford, and replacing Matt Corral was going to take a little bit of work. While the projections are nice, though, he has to do more before his team can move up this list. Luckily for him, that starts soon.
Ole Miss finally has a Power Five test this week as they travel to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. That’ll help their case here, but since it’s a winnable game and the Tulsa Golden Hurricane come to town next week, 4-0 is likely. Add in the Kentucky Wildcats coming to Oxford and then a visit to Vanderbilt before hosting Auburn and visiting the LSU Tigers and A&M, and 8-0 is on the table.
