Tennessee football flirting with top of SEC Power Rankings for Week 2 of 2022
Lost to Kentucky Wildcats 26-16
Talk about a dramatic change from week to week. The Florida Gators had one of the most impressive wins to start the season and the Billy Napier era by shocking the Utah Utes. They followed that up with a disappointing loss to Kentucky. You’re going to be inconsistent like that with a new head coach, and they certainly were.
This team went from one that Tennessee football would be underdogs against again to one that, well, if the Vols don’t beat them this year, they’ll never beat Florida. Still, Florida has faced two Power Five programs, so compared what has happened with the rest of the SEC to this point, there’s no shame in them being 1-1.
As a result, the Gators are in the top half of our SEC Power Rankings, ahead of all one-loss teams and two undefeated teams. The worst you could say about them outside of their loss is that they still haven’t played in a game away from home just yet. Those tests are coming.
Up next, though, is a break they finally get with a visit from the South Florida Bulls. Still, they have to visit Tennessee football the next week. Then they get three games at home in the Eastern Washington Eagles, Missouri and LSU. At least until Mizzou and LSU, they’ll be 3-2 at the worst, but these games put 6-1 on the table.
