Last week was brutal for us, and Tennessee football didn’t do any favors. By winning with a touchdown in overtime but not scoring enough to hit the over, we lost on both fronts (STOP COUNTING THE SPREAD THE SAME IN OVERTIME). That still has us making a profit for the year, but we’re now hanging on by a thread.

Week 2 performance (42% on spread and over/under)

  • Spread: 6-7
  • Over/Under: 5-8
  • Moneyline: -10.5% (Lost $136.16 if $100 bet on every game)

Overall performance for the year (57% on spread and over/under)

  • Spread: 17-12
  • Over/Under: 16-13
  • Moneyline: +1.9% ($45.77profit if $100 bet on every game)

This week’s slate once again includes two games with SEC teams playing each other. We have one non-SEC game featuring two top 25 teams, ironically involving two teams we have picked for once each of the past two weeks. Then the other 10 games involve SEC teams against a non-conference foe, as is common this time of year.

That gives us 13 games to pick for the second straight week. There are some duds, with three FCS teams on here, and Tennessee football doesn’t help to improve the slate. However, we’ve also got three teams facing non-conference Power Five teams, so let’s dive in with our gambling picks this week, once again using odds from WynnBET.

The Tennessee football Volunteers hosting the Akron Zips is one of 13 games this weekend featuring a Southeastern Conference school or all top 25 teams.

Abilene Christian Wildcats (2-0) at Missouri Tigers (1-1)

Saturday, Sept. 17 | Noon ET | SecNetwork+/ESPN+ | Faurot Field; Columbia, Mo.

Gambling odds according to WynnBET

  • Line: Missouri -34.5
  • Over/Under: 55.5
  • Moneyline: Missouri -50000; Abilene Christian +2500

Well, it looks like the Missouri Tigers really are in trouble. Eli Drinkwitz’s team wasn’t competitive with the Kansas State Wildcats at all, and their loss signaled what will likely be another mediocre season. At least this week, they get to move back above .500 with a game against an FCS program. Or do they?

The Abilene Christian Wildcats come into this matchup 2-0 and already look better under first-year head coach Keith Patterson. Against a reeling Mizzou team, they may smell blood and have the chance to pounce. Could that have an impact and send the Tigers spiraling?

Prediction

Mizzou once again looks like an easy matchup for Tennessee football, and this week won’t do the team any favors. The Tigers will win, but they’re down after last week’s lost, and they have a huge matchup at the Auburn Tigers. As a result, they won’t cover, and with both offenses mediocre, this game hits the under, which is the best play here.

Missouri: 34 Abilene Christian: 10 (Abilene Christian +34.5; Under 55.5)
