  • Moneyline: Ole Miss -800; Georgia Tech +550

Two former annual rivals of Tennessee football meet for an interesting showdown in Atlanta. The Ole Miss Rebels, ranked No. 20 in the AP Poll and No. 17 in the Coaches Poll, looked ugly in their season-opening win over the Troy Trojans. They rebounded last week with a blowout win, but it was against the Central Arkansas Bears, so they still haven’t proven anything yet.

Our analysis is that former Vols coach Lane Kiffin spent too much time in the offseason trolling Tennessee football rather than getting his guys to play, and losing Matt Corral and Jeff Lebby may have also hurt. Either way, this is a decent semi-test for them two weeks ahead of their SEC opener against Kentucky.

On the other side, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets may have finally taken that next step under fourth-year head coach Geoff Collins after three straight three-win seasons. They were competitive with the Clemson Tigers midway through the third quarter. Still, the schedule doesn’t get much easier for them, so they need an upset somewhere. Why not here?

Prediction

Honestly, it’s hard to believe in Georgia Tech just because they were competitive for a few minutes against Clemson. Ole Miss has a good offense and can score quickly. GT gives up lots of points quickly. They also don’t score a lot. As a result, Ole Miss will win, and they’ll even cover. Because of GT’s offensive woes, though, the game won’t hit the over.

Ole Miss: 42 Georgia Tech: 17 (Ole Miss -16.5; Under 63)
