Offensive grades part II

Wide receiver: A-

What’s there to not like? Jalin Hyatt had 166 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Ramel Keyton had a 57 yard score. Walker Merrill had two catches for 46 yards and a score, and Squirrel White had a 47-yard grab. The slot receivers were the stars, which was necessary after Cedric Tillman got hurt. It’s an A-, though, because of two offensive pass interference penalties by Bru McCoy.

Tight end: A+

This was by far the best game of the year for Tennessee football’s tight ends. Princeton Fant had two catches for 23 yards, and Jacob Warren had a 17-yard catch to set up a score. Hunter Salmon even had a nine-yard grab. More importantly, the unit did a great job blocking for the Vols. They spurred the run game.

Offensive line: A-

Just like the tight ends, the offensive line spurred the run game for Rocky Top all night. It was more than enough to give this unit an A. However, allowing a sack to Hendon Hooker and not letting the feature back, Jaylen Wright, average over five yards a carry makes this an A-.

Overall offensive grade: A

This team scored 63 points. What more could you ask for? Only three times all night did any of their drives stall, and two of them happened late in the game. As a result, of course Tennessee football gets an A, even if it was against Akron.
