If you just take stock of morale, Tennessee football is through the roof. Vol fans are feeling better about their situation right now than they have felt in six years, and if they beat the Florida Gators on Saturday, the brewing excitement will turn into an explosion. It doesn’t take much to get this team hyped up.

However, what about the actual team? Are they as good as advertised? Is their situation as good as advertised? Well, we honestly have no way of knowing that right now given the fact that they have blown out two MAC opponents and needed overtime for their one Power Five win.

That Power Five team is a top 25 team, but nobody knows just how good they really are. Anyway, the Vols enter SEC play with lots of questions, but they have clear advantages. As usual, breaking them down, we’ll look at stocks that are up and down and stocks to buy and sell. Let’s start with Tennessee football’s overall stock in our Week 3 stock report.

Here is what’s working and what isn’t for the Tennessee football Volunteers after Week 3 of 2022.

Overall stock report: Level and above average

Yes, they beat a team 63-6. However, this was exactly what the Vols were supposed to do. The Akron Zips are awful. They were the worst team the Vols will face all year, and that includes their FCS foe, the UT-Martin Skyhawks. As a result, no blowout whatsoever could have done anything to improve the Vols’ stock in this one.

However, the win the previous week at the Pittsburgh Panthers is still looking pretty good. It was against a top 25 team on the road. That moved the stock to above average but not straight-up high because Pitt lost its quarterback and is still a major question, as we mentioned in our opening paragraph. They are 2-1 but could be way overrated.

Still, Tennessee football’s stock definitely could have fallen this week. Sometimes you deserve credit for doing what you’re supposed to do, and the Vols absolutely did that in last week’s game. As a result, having a level stock report right now is something to be proud of.
