Stock down

Wideouts

While non-wideout receivers have high stock, this game tanked the stock of the actual wideouts. Sure, Ramel Keyton had a 57-yard touchdown pass from Joe Milton III, but that was the only play that had any relevance involving a wideout. To be fair, this was partially due to injury, as Cedric Tillman had to leave the game early.

However, then there was Bru McCoy, who had just one catch for nine yards. Even worse, McCoy committed two offensive pass interference penalties on back to back drives. They were a bit ticky tack, but they tanked the stock of Tennessee football’s wideouts when you add in the injuries.

Kicking in all forms

Paxton Brooks had a 30-yard punt and a punt blocked against Pitt. Then he had a 36-yard punt against Akron, and his 49-yard punt went for a touchback. Simply put, he hasn’t been reaching the standard that was expected of him or is expected of the Vols in general as Punter U.

Making matters worse, place kicking took a step back for the Vols too over the weekend. Chase McGrath missed his first field goal of the year, and the Vols allowed their final kickoff to be returned 50 yards. Maybe this is something that won’t last, but for now, it’s a problem.
