13. Taylor Swift

She may no longer be considered country music, and she may seem to be more New York or Rhode Island than Tennessee now. Given the fact that she is from Pennsylvania, it’s even more watered down. However, there’s no denying Taylor Swift’s impact on the music industry, and she’s as relevant now as ever.

Swift has a new album, “Midnights,” coming out on Oct. 21. She hasn’t released a single for it yet, but what better way to debut it than going on College GameDay when Tennessee football faces Florida? Who cares if she’s now pop and no longer a Tennessean? All country music has been pop for 30 years anyway, and most aren’t originally Tennesseans.

Honestly, Swift’s just the only one who has been honest about the trajectory she wanted to be on. Most country music artists wear costumes and make-up and put on a cowboy hat for show to maintain an image. By embracing her pop roots, Swift’s realness may be more country than any of them, and it’s also representative of modern-day Nashville.

Anyway, beyond a defense of Swift, she’s a Tennessee legend no matter what. How much she knows football may be up in the air, but given what we just saw from Jack Harlow three weeks ago, she can’t do any worse. Why not bring her on?
