9. Heath Shuler

Plenty of quarterbacks for Tennessee football have beaten Florida since the series began being played annually. Andy Kelly did it in 1990, Tee Martin did it in 1998, Brent Schaeffer and Erik Ainge did it in 2004, Joshua Dobbs did it in 2016, and Casey Clausen is the only quarterback to do it twice, 2001 and 2003.

However, only Heath Shuler and one of those other players, who will later be on this list, had legendary performances against Florida. Shuler put together a masterpiece in 1992, leading UT to a 31-14 victory over Florida. That’s not the only reason to bring him on, though.

The Vols now have Shuler’s son, Navy Shuler, on their roster, so he’s a bit more relevant. Of course, Dale Carter had a legendary performance against Florida in 1990 and then had his son, Nigel Warrior, actually start for the Vols, but Warrior is no longer there and wasn’t starting the last time College GameDay came to town in 2016.

As a result, Shuler makes more sense. He was the Vols’ greatest quarterback in history until his successor took over, and he’s now involved with the program again. Since Hendon Hooker is chasing some of his passing records, it makes even more sense to put him up there.
