Tennessee football vs. Florida: 10 keys to the game for Vols and Gators
9. How dominant can Vols’ big receivers be?
Building off of the health of Cedric Tillman, one of the advantages Tennessee football has to exploit in this game is the number of big receivers they have. Last week, Jalin Hyatt led the slot receivers as they were dominant in the Vols’ 63-6 victory. However, the size on the outside is where the mismatch comes with Florida.
The Gators allowed Xavier Weaver of the South Florida Bulls to catch eight balls for 82 yards last week. They allowed a freshman, Dane Key, to lead the Kentucky Wildcats in receiving against them with three catches for 83 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Brant Kuithe led the Utah Utes in receiving against them with nine catches for 105 yards and a touchdown.
Here is where the Vols can truly generate some big plays. None of those teams are as deep with big receivers as UT. They have Tillman, Bru McCoy and Ramel Keyton, as mentioned on the opening slide. All of those guys have a touchdown this year already.
Beyond the big receivers, though, Princeton Fant and Jacob Warren both came alive last week at tight end, and this could be an even bigger mismatch for Tennessee football to exploit. If the Vols can take advantage of this mismatch, they could turn this game into a blowout.
