Tennessee football: Getting to know Florida from a Gators expert
If there’s one thing Florida must do in this game, what is it?
Don’t get too cute. As they said in The Blind Side “Forget the trick plays Burt! Run the dang ball!”
The fatal pick-six against Kentucky came on an attempted hitch route to Wright (the RB). Against USF, Richardson threw a goal-line interception on one of the worst attempts at a fade route you will ever see in college.
On that particular play, Napier called a run-pass option for Richardson. But he’s also been telling Richardson not to run as much. So it’s entirely possible Richardson wanted to run but was second-guessing himself.
As mentioned before, Florida has a solid stable of running backs and a solid offensive line to run behind. If it’s obvious Richardson’s mechanics have gone south, Florida can still have success by running the ball.
Florida transfer Gerald Mincey is now one of the Vols’ starting left tackles. Jeremiah Crawford is the other one, but Mincey is seeing more reps now and likely to be the main guy vs. the Gators. Was his potential obvious last year?
Mincey was decent in the time he played last year, but I wouldn’t say most Gators fans were clamoring for him to get more playing time considering Florida’s left tackle Richard Gouraige has been rock solid.
