Who in the world saw this coming? Tennessee football has lost 16 of 17 and five straight to the Florida Gators, but somehow they’re double-digit favorites? It’s the largest line in favor of the Vols ever since the teams started playing annually way back in 1990, and quite honestly, that’s insane.

What stands out to oddsmakers is the Vols have covered the spread three weeks in a row, as they beat the Akron Zips 63-6 last week. They are also tested and proven, having beating a top 25 team on the road in the Pittsburgh Panthers the week before. At No. 11 in the AP Poll and No. 12 in the Coaches Poll, Josh Heupel’s team could be in the top 10 next week.

Florida has suffered growing pains under first-year head coach Billy Napier. They scored a huge win over the Utah Utes to open the year but then lost to Kentucky and barely held off the South Florida Bulls last week. Anthony Richardson is not running as much, likely because he’s banged up, and this is their first true road test.

Prediction

Although Florida has looked bad the last two weeks, that’s not the Florida that will take the field Saturday. These inconsistencies happen with new head coaches, and they’re due for a solid performance. That’ll be enough to keep the Vols from covering in this game.

However, Richardson’s limitations and the lack of depth at quarterback will limit Florida’s offense. As a result, Tennessee football will still win, and it’ll be due to defense more than anything else, as Florida will cause them to make some sloppy mistakes. Take the Vols, but don’t take them to cover, and take the under in this one.
