Overall record on College GameDay: 9-12

Yes, Tennessee football has struggled on College GameDay throughout the years. The Vols were 2-0 the first year they were ever a part of it, beating Georgia and the Alabama Crimson Tide in 1995. However, then they lost three straight. This may not be a good sign for them heading into this one, but there are some caveats.

Record at home on College GameDay: 3-6

Two of the Vols’ three wins at home on College GameDay were against teams who finished the year at or below .500. Georgia finished 6-6 in 1995, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish finished 5-7 in 1999. Home field advantage hasn’t been kind to the Vols on College GameDay, although they did win the last time GameDay came to Knoxville.

Record as higher ranked team on College GameDay: 8-3.5

Most of UT’s success on College GameDay has been as the higher ranked team away from home. They have two neutral site wins over the Florida State Seminoles for the 1998 national championship and the Virginia Tech Hokies in the Battle at Bristol in 2016. Road wins are at Alabama in 1995, Georgia in 1998 and the South Carolina Gamecocks in 2006.

Record as higher ranked team at home on College GameDay: 3-2.5

All three of the Vols’ wins at home on College GameDay are as the higher ranked team. You may wonder where that half loss came from. UT lost to the Auburn Tigers in 2004 as the lower-ranked team in the AP Poll but higher ranked team in the coaches Poll. They also lost twice at home to Florida as the higher ranked team, in 1996 and 2002.
