Record vs. Florida on College GameDay: 2-6

It should be 3-6, but in 1998, College GameDay refused to go to Knoxville, allegedly because of the outrage at Chris Fowler over his “trailer park frenzy” comment after Peyton Manning lost the Heisman to Charles Woodson the year before. However, outside of that year, GameDay was at this game every year from 1996 to 2002.

As we mentioned in the opening slide, no other team has faced Tennessee football more than twice on College GameDay. This record is obviously a bad omen for the Vols, but they did win the most recent matchup in 2016, and they won the watershed matchup of the series in 2001, both with GameDay on hand.

Record at home vs. Florida on College GameDay: 1-4

Again, it should have been 2-4, as GameDay should’ve been there in 1998. Also, it should’ve been 3-3 since UT got robbed by the phantom catch call in 2000. Still, the 1996, 2002 and 2012 games were all huge letdowns, and Rocky Top lost all of them with GameDay on hand.

Record as higher ranked team vs. Florida on College GameDay: 1-2

All of the Vols’ games as a higher ranked team against the Gators are at home. We mentioned 1996 and 2002. Peyton Manning and the Vols were No. 2 in 1996 and spotted Steve Spurrier’s team a 35-0 lead. They spotted Florida a 24-0 lead with a series of fumbles, including mishandled snaps, due to rain. In their win, they spotted Florida a 21-0 lead in 2016 but won 38-28.
