After a wild week with a ton of excitement surrounding ESPN College GameDay back in Knoxville for the first time since 2016, Tennessee football is finally getting set to kickoff. The Vols will write another chapter in their series with the Florida Gators Saturday for their SEC opener.
Ranked No. 11 in the AP Poll and No. 12 in the Coaches Poll, UT comes into this game at 3-0 after beating the Akron Zips 63-6 last week. They are two weeks removed from a win over a ranked Power Five team on the road, the Pittsburgh Panthers.
Florida, meanwhile, comes in on the heels of a 31-28 win over the South Florida Bulls. Ranked No. 20 in the AP Poll and No. 22 in the Coaches Poll, they come into this game with a 2-1 record. here is all the information you need for Tennessee football’s matchup.

Led by first-year head coach Billy Napier, this will be the first road game for the Gators of the season. However, their first two games were against Power Five foes currently in the top 15, as they beat the Utah Utes in their opener and lost to the Kentucky Wildcats the next week.
Although UT has played a road game, Pitt is their only Power Five foe. Their other two games were dominant wins over MAC opponents, including last week over Akron and their 59-10 win over the Bowling Green Falcons to open the season.
In terms of this series, the Vols have lost 16 of 17 and five straight. Ironically, their last win in that series during was that last visit from GameDay in 2016. They lost the next year on a Hail Mary to end the game and haven’t come within double digits since.
Both teams are dealing with some injuries. Rocky Top will be without Cedric Tillman, who got hurt in the first half of last week’s game along with Jabari Small. Florida linebacker Ventrell Miller is also banged up, but he may give it a go.
Last year, the Gators won this game 38-14 in what was Hendon Hooker’s second start. Next week, Tennessee football has a bye before they visit the LSU Tigers Oct. 8. Florida, meanwhile, hosts the Eastern Washington Eagles.
