Offensive grades part II

Wide receiver: A+

Cedric Tillman wasn’t in the game, and Tennessee football’s receivers were perfect. Bru McCoy had five catches for 102 yards and a touchdown. Jalin Hyatt had five catches for 58 yards. Ramel Keyton had three catches for 69 yards, including a 43-yard diving catch on that 99-yard drive. These weapons were a huge reason for Hendon Hooker looking so great.

Tight end: B+

Without Tillman, it was obvious the Vols would have to use the tight ends more, and they did. Jacob Warren had an epic 45-yard grab. Hooker just missed him on a sure touchdown pass on another play. Princeton Fant had five catches for 43 yards, including a key 3rd and 10 catch on that 99-yard drive. This would be an A+, but Fant fumbled on the first drive.

Offensive line: A-

There was a busted protection on the fourth down sack on Hendon Hooker, and there were three penalties, but this unit was solid for the most part all night. Cooper Mays did his job on Dez Watson, and after the first drive, there was only one penalty by the unit, so this group still stays in the A range.

Overall offensive grade: A

When you score on all but three possessions, it’s safe to say you did your job. Tennessee football had an offensive performance that perfectly exemplifies what Josh Heupel was trying to bring to the program when he was hired.
