Tennessee football: Did Vols reach top of Week 4 SEC Power Rankings?
Defeated Northern Illinois Huskies 31-23
Similar to Ole Miss, Kentucky looked awful against its Group of Five opponent over the weekend. However, Mark Stoops’ team looked great in the two weeks before, and their one Power Five win is over Florida, arguably the best 2-2 team in the country. Florida did almost beat Tennessee football, so UK’s overall resume is solid.
However, they still only have one Power Five win, and they have played an FCS school. As a result, similar to Ole Miss, they have a worse resume than the other three undefeated teams on here, and struggling with the Northern Illinois Huskies was enough for us to drop them in our SEC Power Rankings this week.
Still, Kentucky is the top 10 team in the polls right now of the two undefeated SEC teams with one Power Five win, and they are about to have a chance to prove a lot more things. They and Tennessee football are in competition to be the team that challenges Georgia in the East.
For Kentucky, that test arrives this week, as their matchup with Ole Miss is huge. The winner may have a case to top these rankings. After that, they get to host South Carolina and Mississippi State, so they could be 7-0 before facing Tennessee football, which makes this game huge.
