Defeated Vanderbilt Commodores 55-3

Okay, so Alabama is one of the undefeated teams on here to beat two Power Five foes. However, one of their Power Five wins is over Vanderbilt, the worst team in the SEC. Say what you want, but even this year has shown that Vandy is just barely a Power Five team, so Bama’s resume is the worst of the three schools to be undefeated and beat two Power Five foes.

Add in the fact that the Texas Longhorns, their one quality win, just lost this past weekend, and Bama barely beat them by one on the road, and they have to be the worst of the three teams that meet the criteria for N. 1 in our SEC Power Rankings. Nick Saban’s team just hasn’t done enough yet to prove otherwise.

Again, these rankings are about what teams have done to this point this year with a recency bias. Last year has no impact, and projections have no impact. When you take those two things out of the equation, there’s no way Alabama can top this list.

They’re about to get the chance to prove themselves, though. Over the next three weeks, they visit Arkansas, host Texas A&M and visit Tennessee football. Those are three straight top 25 opponents, so if they’re undefeated by the second to last weekend in October, they’ll easily sit atop this list.
