Tennessee football: Did Vols reach top of Week 4 SEC Power Rankings?
Defeated Missouri Tigers 17-14 (OT)
Don’t get too high on Auburn and Bryan Harsin. Missouri is still a bad team, and Auburn is also pretty bad. Getting the luck they needed to beat such a bad Mizzou team at home shows how far down this program is, and it”s not going to get any better under Harsin. This solidifies Tennessee football head coach Josh Heupel as the best SEC hire in 2021.
Auburn got this hideous, undeserved win against Mizzou a week after getting blown out by the Penn State Nittany Lions. They have an awful offense, and when facing competent teams, their defense remains pretty bad as well. Again, they should have lost this game.
As a result, they are still down at No. 12 in our SEC Power Rankings, and they shouldn’t be excited about moving up one spot. It’s completely undeserved and has a lot more to do with what happened to Vanderbilt and the fact that, however lucky, they beat Mizzou.
With the way they’re playing, though, a collapse is around the corner, as the host the LSU Tigers this week. Then they visit Georgia and Ole Miss before hosting the Arkansas Razorbacks, visiting the Mississippi State Bulldogs and hosting the Texas A&M Aggies. They could lose all of those games, and 4-8 is on the table.
