Defeated Charlotte 49ers 56-20

Look at that! Shane Beamer’s team came alive, and they just might be difficult for Tennessee football in late November after all. The South Carolina Gamecocks rebounded from back to back SEC losses to dominate the Charlotte 49ers. Although they haven’t yet beaten a Power Five team, they still have two FBS wins.

South Carolina used a strong rushing attack and an opportunistic defense that forced four turnovers to win this game. Although there was no special teams magic, Frank Beamer would be proud. It was that type of game in a much-needed blowout win for this program.

As a result, the Gamecocks moved up a spot in our SEC Power Rankings. There’s a little more shame in losing to Arkansas and Georgia with the way those two teams played this week, but it’s not too much shame. South Carolina still has everything in front of it.

Remember, this team has the South Carolina State Bulldogs to get back above .500 this week. Although they visit the Kentucky Wildcats and host Texas A&M after that, their late October/early November schedule is very doable with Missouri, Vanderbilt and Florida. That combined with South Carolina State makes six wins very possible, and an upset could be in store.
