Tennessee football: Did Vols reach top of Week 4 SEC Power Rankings?
Lost to Tennessee Volunteers 38-33
What do we make of Florida? The Utah Utes are clearly a quality win, as they are in the top 12 now. Also, both of the Gators’ losses are to opponents in the top 10. As a result, this may be the best 2-2 resume in the nation. However, a little context is required for this ranking.
Florida may have lost to Tennessee football 38-33, but the Vols were up 38-21 midway through the fourth quarter and called off the dogs. It almost cost them after Florida recovered that onside kick late, but the fact of the matter is for the most part, they didn’t look like they were the same caliber team. As a result, they can’t get too much credit.
Meanwhile, other teams that seemed to be having major issues improved this past weekend. As a result, losing by one score to the Vols wasn’t enough to improve Billy Napier’s team in our SEC Power Rankings, even though there is reason to be excited about where they’re going.
Napier’s team gets a break this week, and a chance for Anthony Richardson to further heal, with the Eastern Washington Eagles coming to town Saturday. They basically get another break with Mizzou the next week. Then they get their crucial matchup with LSU at home, but all three games are winnable, so they could be 5-2 before their bye ahead of Georgia.
