Tennessee football: Did Vols reach top of Week 4 SEC Power Rankings?
Lost to Texas A&M Aggies 23-21
Honestly, the Arkansas Razorbacks, Texas A&M Aggies and Florida could all be interchangeable. They are the three hardest teams to figure out right now, and Arkansas losing to A&M over the weekend was certainly a killer. Had they done what they should’ve done, they would have had a case to be above Tennessee football this week.
Instead, they lost to a team that was two weeks removed from a loss to the Appalachian State Mountaineers, and that was enough for us to drop the Hogs significantly. You could make a real case for Florida above them, but South Carolina and the Cincinnati Bearcats are effectively two Power Five wins, regardless of Cincy’s conference.
That’s enough to say that for now the Hogs are above the Gators in our SEC Power Rankings. However, this loss is till a wasted opportunity for Sam Pittman’s team, and it makes taking a step above last year a lot harder now. It could actually derail the momentum of the program.
With Alabama coming to town next, things aren’t about to get any easier, and then they have to road games against the Mississippi State Bulldogs and BYU Cougars, so this team could be 3-4 very soon if it’s not careful. As a result, they may not be done sliding.
